History & Significance

Parliamentary forces under the Myddelton family and local commanders fought a series of skirmishes across Ceredigion (Cardiganshire) to establish control of the interior. The Welsh interior — remote, mountainous, with few roads — was difficult to garrison and control. Both sides relied on local gentry loyalties. The high ground of Mynydd Bach in the interior was a route used by both raiding parties and retreating forces.
