History & Significance

The Cotswold town of Chipping Norton was within the Royalist zone of control from Oxford. Parliamentary forces from Warwickshire and Northamptonshire raided the area; Royalist cavalry maintained a presence here throughout much of the war. The area was finally cleared as part of the mopping-up after Naseby.
