A Jacobite force under Lord Lewis Gordon surprised a government force at Inverurie and routed it. The victory secured north-east Scotland for Prince Charles Edward Stuart during the '45 rising, allowing the Jacobites to draw recruits and supplies from Aberdeenshire during the winter before Culloden.
