The Battle

History & Significance

Walmer Castle near Deal was another of the Downs castles seized during the Second Civil War Kentish rising of 1648. Together with Deal and Sandown, it was held by Royalist sympathisers supported by the mutinous Parliamentary fleet under Batten until Warwick recovered naval obedience and the garrisons were isolated.
