History & Significance

Glyndŵr besieged Caernarfon again in 1403 following his success at Hyddgen. Though the castle held — its walls were too strong — the Welsh demonstrated they could neutralise English power centres in north Wales. The siege caused significant economic disruption and tied down English garrison forces that were needed elsewhere. Glyndŵr's strategic goal was not to capture impregnable castles but to make English administration of Wales impossible.
