History & Significance

During the Year of the Four Emperors, with Roman attention on the continent, Venutius launched his most serious revolt. Cartimandua was rescued by Roman troops but Venutius took the Brigantian kingdom. The episode triggered Cerialis's conquest campaign of 71-74 AD that brought Yorkshire firmly under Roman control.
