History & Significance

Edward I forces under Roger Mortimer and Roger de Clifford besiege Dolforwyn Castle, Llywelyn ap Gruffudd last significant castle in mid-Wales built against English wishes in 1273. The garrison holds briefly before surrendering. Its fall cuts off Llywelyn from the middle March and isolates Gwynedd.
