The Battle

History & Significance

Royalist forces reoccupied Crowland Abbey and its fenland position in 1645 and used it as a base to raid Parliamentary Lincolnshire. Parliamentary Eastern Association forces besieged the island position again and retook it. The second Crowland action illustrated the persistence of Royalist partisan activity in the southern fens even after the main Lincolnshire campaign was decided.
