The Battle

History & Significance

During the Battle of Edgehill on 23 October 1642, Prince Rupert led the Royalist right wing cavalry in a charge that routed the Parliamentary left wing horse. Rupert pursued the fleeing Parliamentary cavalry all the way to Kineton village rather than returning to support the infantry, leaving the Royalist foot unsupported. The pursuit was decisive in causing the indecisive outcome of the battle.
