History & Significance

The chain of events that produced the Battle of Lincoln 1141. Stephen besieged the Angevin garrison in Lincoln Castle; Robert of Gloucester marched to relieve them; Stephen chose to fight rather than retreat. The resulting battle was the most decisive of the Anarchy.
