The Battle

History & Significance

Lord Taaffe's Confederate Munster army was routed by Parliamentary forces. Alasdair MacColla (Alexander MacDonald), the great Scottish-Irish general who had served alongside Montrose, was killed fighting rearguard action. Together with Dungans Hill, Knocknanuss in 1647 destroyed both Confederate provincial armies, leaving only Owen Roe O'Neill's Ulster force intact.
