History & Significance

Hadrian's visit to Britain followed a serious military crisis in the north. He ordered construction of the Wall and reorganised the Yorkshire garrisons. Multiple small actions were fought to re-pacify Brigantia. The reorganisation established Eboracum as VI Victrix's permanent base, a posting the legion would hold until the end of Roman Britain.
