The Rebecca Riots spread into Cardiganshire in 1843 with attacks on tollgates and expressions of grievances about rents, tithes and the new Poor Law. The Cardiganshire actions showed that the movement had extended beyond its original Carmarthenshire heartland across much of west Wales.
