The Battle

History & Significance

As Roman forces fanned out after the Medway battle, rearguard Catuvellauni and allied Belgic warriors used the river valleys of north Kent to delay the Roman advance. The River Darent crossing was one of several such delaying actions recorded in general terms by Cassius Dio as the British adopted hit-and-run tactics after the Medway defeat.
