During the conflict between Longchamp and Prince John, Longchamp attempted to besiege Nottingham Castle which was held for John. The siege was part of Longchamp's attempt to neutralize John's power bases while acting as regent. However Longchamp lacked sufficient support and the siege was unsuccessful. His failure at Nottingham demonstrated his overextension and contributed to his ultimate defeat.
