The Battle

History & Significance

Scottish forces raiding into Cumberland attacked Lanercost Priory near Hadrian's Wall in 1296. The priory which Edward I would later use as winter quarters was sacked. These raids accompanied the broader Scottish defiance following Wallace's rising and demonstrated that English victory at Dunbar had not secured the border counties.
