History & Significance

In April-May 1648, before the battle of St Fagans, a large Welsh Royalist and Presbyterian force assembled at Brecon and marched south to join the main Royalist concentration. The muster attracted thousands of men who had fought for Parliament in the First Civil War but now declared for the King and the Covenant. Several skirmishes with local Parliamentarians occurred as the force moved south through Glamorgan.
