History & Significance

Welsh forces under Dafydd ap Gruffudd struck simultaneously across north Wales in March 1282. Raiding parties threatened Chester's supply lines as the city served as Edward's main base. The English were initially taken by surprise and had to rapidly deploy to protect the vital Chester base and its connecting routes to the interior.
