History & Significance

Richard III assembled his royal army at Leicester in August 1485 on learning of Tudor's landing at Milford Haven. The muster drew on East Midlands loyalists, Yorkshire northern affinity men, and household troops. Richard marched from Leicester to Bosworth wearing his crown, the last English king to wear his crown in battle.
