History & Significance

Mancetter in Warwickshire is the most academically supported location for the final battle of Boudicca's revolt — distinct from the general "Watling Street" attribution. Tacitus describes Paulinus choosing a position with a narrow defile backed by forest, with open plain in front. The terrain at Mancetter fits precisely. Graham Webster and other scholars favour this site. Roman finds including military equipment and mass burials of the period have been reported nearby. Paulinus's outnumbered force destroyed perhaps 80,000 British warriors.

Casualties & Losses

c.80,000 British killed; c.400 Romans; Boudicca took poison
