History & Significance

After Montrose destruction at Philiphaugh in September 1645, scattered Royalist and Highland soldiers drifted north toward their home territories. Covenanting cavalry pursued and engaged pockets of these survivors through 1646. This skirmish near Stirling was one of several post-Philiphaugh mopping-up engagements that ended the last Highland Royalist presence in the central belt.
