Bagley Wood south of Oxford was the site of repeated skirmishing between Royalist Oxford garrison cavalry and Parliamentary forces probing the southern approaches to the city. The wood provided cover for both sides and cavalry actions in and around it were a regular feature of the siege approach operations.
