The Battle

History & Significance

Before Glyndwr captured Aberystwyth Castle itself, Welsh forces first took control of the town, expelling the English settler community. The town's capture isolated the castle garrison and preceded the castle's fall by a few months. The English settler borough towns of west Wales were particularly targeted by Glyndwr's forces as they represented the institutional infrastructure of English colonial rule in Wales.

Forces Involved

Glyndwr forces: c. 500–1,000 men. English garrison and settlers: c. 150–300 defenders.
