The Battle

History & Significance

Battle of Winceby was a cavalry engagement in Lincolnshire fought as part of the Eastern Association's operations. Oliver Cromwell had his horse shot under him and was briefly trampled before the Parliamentary cavalry swept the field. It was an important early victory for Cromwell's developing cavalry and demonstrated the quality of the Eastern Association forces. The battle secured Lincolnshire for Parliament.
