The Battle

History & Significance

Following their crucial support for Robert Bruce, the Campbells received royal confirmation of their Loch Awe lands and expanded to control the strategically important islands on the loch including Fraoch Eilean. The Bruce reward to Campbell was the foundation on which the future Campbell earldom of Argyll would be built. Loch Awe with its defensive islands gave Campbell an impregnable stronghold in the heart of Argyll.
