The Battle

History & Significance

A French force of 2,500–3,000 men under Jean de Rieux landed at Milford Haven in August 1405 in support of Glyndŵr. Combined with Welsh forces, the army marched as far as Woodbury Hill near Worcester before withdrawing. The English did not offer battle. The French departure left Glyndŵr without his promised great ally. The French returned home having accomplished nothing strategically decisive, though the episode demonstrated that Glyndŵr's alliance with France was real and had international strategic implications.
