History & Significance

Huntingdonshire saw repeated cavalry skirmishing as Royalist raiding parties from Newark and the Midlands probed the edges of the Eastern Association's territory. Parliamentary horse units based at Huntingdon and Cambridge made counter-raids and escorts for supply convoys. These minor operations built the cavalry experience that made the Eastern Association's horse the best in England by 1644.
