Luddite rioters attacked Emanuel Burton power loom mills at Middleton near Oldham over two days, burning the mill owner's house and fighting soldiers drafted in to protect the machinery. The Middleton attacks were among the most sustained confrontations of the Lancashire Luddite campaign.
