History & Significance

After his failed assault on London Fauconberg withdrew with his Kentish army and fleet to Sandwich, where he held the port briefly. Edward IV's rapid advance after Tewkesbury forced submission. Fauconberg was initially pardoned then arrested and executed at Middleham in autumn 1471.
