History & Significance

Count Theodosius (father of Emperor Theodosius I) systematically reconquered Britain in 368-369 AD. He entered London in triumph, published amnesty for deserters, drove out the barbarian raiding parties, restored the Wall, reorganised the signal station system on the Yorkshire coast, and created a new province called Valentia — possibly in the Wall zone. This was Rome last successful major military effort in Britain.

Forces Involved

Theodosius with Batavians, Heruli, Jovii, and Victores units — four experienced regiments
