History & Significance

The fall of Aberystwyth Castle in 1404 alongside Harlech gave Owain Glyndwr complete control of the west Welsh coast and cut off English sea-borne supply to much of Wales. With Harlech as his capital and Aberystwyth as his treasury, Glyndwr ruled as an independent Welsh prince for several years.
