The Battle

History & Significance

Brill on its plateau in Buckinghamshire was fortified by Parliamentary forces as an outpost covering the road from London to Oxford. The fort at Brill was important for cutting Royalist communications east of Oxford and screening Parliamentary approaches to the Royalist capital, forming part of the ring of Parliamentary outposts from which the final siege was eventually launched.
