History & Significance

Part of the slow but relentless Campbell expansion southward through Argyll in the fourteenth century. The Campbells used a combination of legal manipulation, marriage, and armed force to absorb neighbouring territories. Craignish gave them control of a key sea passage between Loch Craignish and the Sound of Jura.
