The Battle

History & Significance

Petersfield in east Hampshire served as a Parliamentary muster point and base for operations in the area between the South Downs and the Weald. Parliamentary forces from Sussex and Surrey were assembled here before moving west to operations against Winchester or north toward Basing House during the Hampshire campaigns of 1644.
