History & Significance

Charlemont Fort on the Blackwater River in Armagh was one of the last Confederate strongholds in Ulster. Its fall to Coote extended Parliamentary control across Ulster. Sir Phelim O'Neill continued guerrilla resistance in Ulster until his capture in 1653.
