History & Significance

Royalist cavalry from the Oxford and Midlands garrisons raided toward Warwick in 1644, skirmishing with the Parliamentary garrison cavalry in the area south of the town. These raids aimed to disrupt Parliamentary supply lines between Coventry and Northampton and draw Parliamentary forces away from the main campaign areas.
