The Battle

History & Significance

During the 1294-95 Welsh revolt, Madog ap Llywelyn attacked the still-incomplete Caernarfon Castle. The sheriff Roger de Puleston was hanged and the garrison massacred. This was the most serious setback to Edward I construction programme in Wales and forced a major rebuilding of the castle walls.
