The Battle

History & Significance

As Edward IV marched south from York toward Coventry Lord Montagu at Pontefract had sufficient forces to intercept him but failed to act. Whether through Montagu's hesitation, Stanley interference or Edward's speed, the Yorkist army passed through the Midlands unmolested. Montagu later died fighting for Warwick at Barnet.
