History & Significance

A small Royalist rising at St Neots during the Second Civil War attempted to link with the Scottish invasion of 1648 and the Essex rising simultaneously. Parliamentary cavalry caught and dispersed the rebels. The action demonstrated the difficulty of coordinating geographically separated Royalist risings — the Scots, Essex and various local insurrections all collapsed individually before they could unite.
