History & Significance

The MacDougalls of Lorn, at the height of their power in the late thirteenth century, extended their control around Loch Awe at the expense of smaller clans. Their power — built on the Pictish heritage of Argyll and alliance with the Comyns — would be catastrophically reduced by Bruce after 1308.
