The Battle

History & Significance

Quintus Veranius arrived determined to resume the offensive after Gallus passivity. He struck aggressively into Silurian territory, raiding and burning settlements in south Wales. Tacitus records two campaign seasons against Silures and Ordovices with varying success. Veranius boasted in his will of conquering the whole province for Nero if given two more years of life. He died before completing his programme.
