The Battle

History & Significance

Legio XX Valeria advanced northwestward from Camulodunum establishing the Fosse Way military road as the provincial frontier. The legion pushed through modern Leicestershire and Warwickshire, planting temporary forts at key river crossings. The Corieltavi, internally divided, offered patchy resistance and submitted in sequence. The Fosse Way line from Lincoln to Exeter served as the working frontier for several years before the Welsh campaigns intensified.
