The Battle

History & Significance

Ostorius Scapula pushed northwest into Deceangli territory in northeast Wales specifically to seize the rich lead and silver mines of Flintshire. Roman lead pigs stamped with the date 49 AD have been found in Flintshire — proving extraordinarily rapid exploitation after the campaign. The Deceangli were too small a tribe to offer serious military resistance. The campaign was cut short when news arrived of revolt among the Brigantes requiring Scapula to turn east.

Forces Involved

Auxiliary column probably from the Legio XIV base on the Welsh Marches
