History & Significance

Thomas Venner and his Fifth Monarchist congregation assembled at their Coleman Street meeting house in the City of London on 6 January 1661 and marched out armed, proclaiming King Jesus and the Fifth Monarchy. The muster of approximately fifty armed men in the heart of the City shocked the newly restored Charles II government and caused a major security alert.
