The Battle

History & Significance

The corridor between Grantham and Belvoir Castle was the scene of persistent cavalry fighting throughout 1644 as the Royalist Belvoir garrison and the Newark forces jointly sought to dominate the Vale of Belvoir and interrupt the Parliamentary supply line between Stamford and Newark. Eastern Association horse repeatedly clashed with Belvoir and Newark cavalry in this corridor.
