The Battle

History & Significance

Glyndŵr's first major battlefield victory. With a small force on the western slopes of Pumlumon (Plynlimon), he defeated a larger force of English and Flemish soldiers from south Wales who had come to suppress him. The exact location is uncertain — two white quartz stones on the Hyddgen river are called "Glyndŵr's Covenant Stones." The victory transformed public perception of the uprising from a border riot to a genuine war of independence. Welsh recruits flooded to his cause after Hyddgen.
