History & Significance

Weston Zoyland church and village served as the quarters and field hospital of Feversham's royal army immediately before and after the Battle of Sedgemoor. After the battle, hundreds of captured rebels were imprisoned in the church. The churchwardens' accounts recorded the clearing of rebel blood from the church floor. The village remains central to the Sedgemoor battlefield landscape.
