The Battle

History & Significance

Following the Norwegian withdrawal after Largs, Alexander III moved quickly to assert Scottish authority over the Hebrides. Scottish forces were dispatched to receive submissions from island lords who had followed Haakon. The systematic consolidation of 1264 set the stage for the Treaty of Perth in 1266 by which Norway formally ceded the Hebrides to Scotland.
