Hartlebury Castle — the seat of the Bishops of Worcester — was held for the king during the Civil War. As a major administrative and religious centre, its capture by Parliament was symbolically important as well as militarily significant. The castle controlled the route between Worcester and the Midlands and was one of the last Worcestershire garrisons to fall. It remains the residence of the Bishops of Worcester and houses the county museum.
