History & Significance

Bulwell was one of the first Nottinghamshire villages to see organised Luddite frame-breaking. Bands of stocking-frame workers attacked the workshops of hosiers paying sub-standard rates, smashing dozens of frames in coordinated nocturnal raids that launched the East Midlands Luddite campaign.
